Clean & Care Guide
Welcome to the Sitting Buck family! Your Vellies are built for adventure and crafted with care, so let’s keep them looking and feeling their best. Here’s how to clean and maintain your Vellies to ensure they are always ready for the next journey.
1. Regular Cleaning
Brush Off Dirt: After each wear, gently brush off any dirt or dust with a soft-bristle brush. This simple step keeps your Vellies looking fresh and prevents grime from settling in.
Wipe with a Damp Cloth: For a deeper clean, use a lightly dampened microfibre cloth to wipe down the leather. Avoid soaking the leather—just a gentle wipe will do the trick.
2. Drying
Air Dry Naturally: If your Vellies get wet, allow them to air dry naturally in a cool, dry place. Keep them away from direct sunlight or heat sources, as these can cause the leather to crack or fade.
Stuff with Paper: To maintain the shape of your Vellies while they dry, stuff them with newspaper or tissue paper.
3. Conditioning
Keep Them Soft: Regular conditioning is key to keeping your Vellies soft and supple. While we are busy perfecting our own leather conditioner (stay tuned!), you can use any high-quality leather conditioner in the meantime.
Buff to Shine: After conditioning, use a soft cloth to buff your Vellies. This will enhance their natural shine and restore their rich finish.
4. Stain Removal
Act Quickly on Stains: If you spot a stain, tackle it as soon as possible. Gently dab the area with a damp cloth and let it dry. For stubborn stains, repeating the process should do the trick.
Use Mild Cleaners: Until our own Spotless Solution is ready to roll, a mild soap mixed with water can be a great alternative for cleaning tough spots. Just be sure to test it on a small area first.
5. Oil Spill Care
Blot Immediately: If an oil spill occurs, act quickly. Use a dry, clean cloth or paper towel to blot up as much of the oil as possible. Avoid rubbing, as this can push the oil deeper into the leather.
Apply Absorbent Powder: Sprinkle cornstarch, baking soda or talcum powder over the spill to absorb the oil. Leave it on for several hours or overnight, then brush it off gently. Repeat if necessary.
Clean and Condition: If oil remains, lightly clean the area with a damp cloth and mild soap. Afterward, condition the leather to restore moisture and keep the leather supple.
6. Storage
Store Smartly: When not in use, store your Vellies in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Avoid damp areas to prevent mold and mildew.
7. General Tips
Limit Water Exposure: While your Vellies are tough, it is best to avoid excessive water exposure. Prolonged wet conditions can weaken the leather over time.
Be Careful with Oils: If you are using any oil treatments on your Vellies, apply them sparingly. While oils can nourish the leather, too much can make the leather greasy and attract dirt. Always test on a small area first.
By following these tips, your Vellies will stay as comfortable and stylish as the day you got them. We are working hard on bringing you the perfect Sitting Buck Care Products, but in the meantime, these suggestions should keep your Vellies in top-notch condition. Keep adventuring!
